World Mental Health Day

Wetherby Senior marked World Mental Health Day with activities to encourage our boys to think about healthy habits to maintain good mental health.

Starting with morning registration on Monday, all boys in all year groups took part in a quiz where they considered how they were looking after their own mental health. Covering physical, emotional and psychological aspects of their daily life, this quiz asked our boys to think about areas that they may be neglecting, and how they could change this for the better.

For Wetherby Senior’s Year 12, their day concluded with an inspiring talk, as part of our Sixth Form’s regular lecture series with nearby Queen’s College, London. To mark World Mental Health Day, our sixth formers heard from Diren Kartal, a personal trainer, online fitness coach and Head Coach at Project X Training, on ways to improve physical and mental health.

Ms Pheiffer, Deputy Head (Pastoral and Wellbeing) at Wetherby Senior, said: “Mental health is a state of mental wellbeing that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realise their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community.

“At Wetherby Senior, the wellbeing and safety of our young people is at the heart of all we do, so we run activities, events, workshops and more throughout the academic year, to support our pupils. By taking part in additional activities on World Mental Health Day, we can use this as another opportunity to talk about mental health in general, how we need to look after it, and how important it is to talk about things and get help if you are struggling.”

The World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day on 10th October every year.
