Headmaster’s blog 10/06/22

After the discomfort of a Monday tube strike, I’m pleased to report that our first week back has passed smoothly, with public exams for our GCSE and A Level cohorts, plus end-of-year exams for Years 9 and 10. There has also been a number of exciting activities and trips, which included some of our sixth formers watching Jerusalem at the Apollo Theatre on Wednesday and our Year 12 geographers exploring Brixton today, as part of their A Level studies.

On Wednesday, I joined colleagues and parents for a very enjoyable evening of cheese and wine tasting, arranged by our PTA and members of School staff – thank you to all involved. In addition, last night saw our GCSE and A Level art exhibition, which showcased the hard work and talent of our young artists and graphic designers. I was hugely impressed by all the pieces on display in our Drama Studio and would like to congratulate all our boys on producing such outstanding work.

Next Thursday will see our Year 8 pupils spend the night on the enclosed terrace at Hannah House. Before eyebrows are raised, this is part of Sleep at School, a fundraising initiative by the charity movement End Youth Homelessness. Further details are below and our JustGiving link can be found here. Thank you to everyone who has already donated towards this very deserving cause, and I wish Year 8 a very good night of sleep next week!

Of course, exams continue next week, alongside a number of inter-Trib tennis matches, and other sporting fixtures, plus a session on university applications for parents of our current Year 12 (further information under Diary, below). So there is plenty to keep all at Wetherby Senior busy, as we move nearer to the end of our summer term.
