Bound for Bocconi

Alexander has an offer to read International Economics and Management at Bocconi University, Italy. He lives in Kensington and is studying A Levels in Maths, Business Studies, Economics and Italian within Wetherby Senior’s Sixth Form.

“I chose my degree because I found my A Level in Economics so fascinating. I now want to bring my studies in this subject to a higher level, so I can understand more about how the world works and about how economics influences global decisions and situations.

“I applied to Bocconi University because it is such a highly regarded institution and it is based in Milan. I will be able to live in Italy, yet study in English and remain near my family (who are from the city), as well as being just a short flight from my London-based friends.

“I have found my A Level studies to be very enjoyable, thanks to the great teachers within Wetherby Senior’s Sixth Form. I am particularly grateful to staff like Mrs Deedat, Mrs Bainbridge, Mr Hayes and Dr Jason, who have all helped me in so many ways when applying to both Bocconi and to UK universities, via UCAS. I am very appreciative as I received offers from a lot of UK universities, as well as from Bocconi, and this was thanks to such great support by the Sixth Form team.

“After university, I am hoping to start working in the financial sector, possibly in an investment bank or a hedge fund. I would also very much like to do a Masters degree at Columbia, New York, and live in Manhattan for a few years, as I love that city!”

Bocconi University, in Milan, is consistently ranked as the best university in Italy in its fields, and as one of the best in the world. In 2021, QS World University Rankings ranked the university seventh worldwide. Notable alumni include politicians (such as former Italian prime minister, Mario Monti), as well as world-leading economists and business people.

Wetherby Senior’s current Year 13 presently hold over 120 offers, across 35 subjects, at universities around the UK and in North America, France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands. We’ve been interviewing many of our successful sixth formers to acknowledge their hard work and commitment, and to further inspire to our younger pupils.
