Brass and Bergerac

Members of Wetherby Senior’s Brass Band may be too young to remember Bergerac but that didn’t stop their successful tour of Jersey over the Easter break.

Mr Martin, Wetherby Senior’s Director of Music, accompanied our School’s Brass Band on their four-day tour of the Channel Island. He said: “Our Brass Band tour saw our talented and dedicated pupils work with staff from Jersey Academy of Music, perform at venues like Jersey Zoo and Howard Davis Park, and visit famous sites on Jersey during their downtime.

“Although my references to TV show Bergerac, which was filmed in Jersey during the 1980s, passed our young musicians by, it was a fantastic trip. There were plenty of opportunities for our boys to perform in front of a live audience and further their musical abilities, as well as make the most of the sunshine on the largest of the Channel Islands.”

At Wetherby Senior, all in Year 7 learn to play a brass instrument, with teaching aided by support from our team of professional brass players who regularly perform with Europe’s finest orchestras and bands, in London’s West End and at various international festival. Our Brass Band also wowed audiences in London recently, at our School’s Brass Bash before the Easter holiday.
