Young people at Wetherby Senior raised over £5,000 for charity, cycling the River Thames in a 12-hour long competition, all from the comfort of our School’s spin studio.
Earlier this month, members from all year groups competed in the first Wetherby Senior School Sponsored Spin. Making good use of our School’s Marylebone Lane spin studio, each boy cycled a half hour slot, from 7:00am to 7:00pm, representing their Trib and racing to be the first Trib to cycle 346km, otherwise known as the length of the Thames
Mr Thornton, who co-ordinated our School’s charitable cycling challenge, said: “Firstly, I want to say well done to all our pupils, and staff, who participated in the event; as a School, over 100 different participants collectively cycled over 1,000 miles. Also, congratulations must go to Walbrook who were crowned our Sponsored Spin Champions after completing the length of the River Thames before any other Trib.
“So far, we have raised over £5,000 for our chosen charities: Save the Children, Crisis and West London Mission. I particularly want to commend Damien, in Year 9, who single-handedly raised £1,000.”
With fantastic feedback from all who took part, Mr Thornton added: “Overall, a super effort was shown in both fundraising and cycling. I am already excited about planning our next event.”
