Latin learning

Wetherby Senior’s primo sixth former has taken part in the London Classical Reading Competition.

Last week, Zach in Year 12 performed a poem from the Roman poet, Catullus, in front of an audience and judges at the prestigious competition. Supported by the Classical Association, this event took place at Westminster School and included six sections, with Zach taking part in the Open Latin section.

Miss Woods, from Wetherby Senior’s Classics Department, explains: “Participants had to consider not only the meter of the poem, but also the emotions and meaning behind the poem itself, and convey this in their performance. Zach did a fantastic job, as well as being the Wetherby Senior’s first ever Latinist to participate in this competition!”

Bene factum Zach!

If other Wetherby Senior pupils would like to take part in future competitions, like the London Classical Reading Competition, then please contact Miss Woods or Miss Nash.
