Pupil of the opera

One Wetherby Senior pupil has been starring in an acclaimed and gripping production at the Royal Opera House.

Throughout November, Ivo in Year 8 has been performing on the Covent Garden stage in Jephtha. Now recognised as one of Handel’s masterpieces, Jephtha is the Baroque composer’s biblical tale of faith and sacrifice.

Ivo undertook auditions back in the summer, and was rehearsing heavily during autumn. His hard work has clearly paid off since he has been much praised for his role. One critic said, “a big hand to 13-year-old Ivo as the Angel for negotiating a difficult, high solo with perfect intonation – a remarkable feat for a treble.” Other reviews describe Ivo as, “singing his aria beautifully” and giving “a confident and pitch-perfect turn.”

Taking place is London’s premiere opera house, this new production of Jephtha is conducted by Laurence Cummings and stars celebrated British tenor, Allan Clayton. Ivo will give his final performance this week.

Bravo Ivo!
