A geographical debate

While presidential candidates debate across the Atlantic, Wetherby Senior sixth formers were debating, and voting, for a new Geography Scholar President.

Earlier this week, Oscar, Vangelis, Falco and James transformed our School’s Marylebone Lane Drama Studio into the perfect venue for a presidential-style debate. This event was then attended by all 34 Geography Scholars, plus many other excited sixth formers, before voting took place.

Ms Maroudi, Head of Geography, said: “The debate was intense, with our young people presenting speeches that were carefully thought out and including suggestions for “Geography King” badges and other great ideas for new Geography Scholar events. This was then followed by intense questioning by Oscar, our moderator, to see if their plans would truly come to fruition and to ensure our candidates demonstrated who had the truest passion for geography.

“Following the vote, I’m delighted to announce that Vangelis (from Year 12) and George (from Year 13) are our new co-presidents. I have been hugely impressed by the hard work and dedication of our sixth formers in setting up this debate and I look forward to another exciting year of events and activities for our Geography Scholars.”

Our Geography Scholars will now head to the nearby Royal Geographical Society on Monday, to enjoy a fascinating lecture on world friendly travel.

Wetherby Senior’s Geography Scholars are those in Years 11 to 13 who have shown a particularly strong aptitude and keen interest in the subject. Amongst other activities, our Geography Scholars aim to attend a Royal Geographical Society lecture each month, helping to extend their knowledge and understanding beyond GCSE and A Level study.
