Ice work

One Wetherby Senior pupil kept his cool this week, taking part in a trial for the England U14 ice hockey team.

Thomas, currently in Year 9, travelled to Nottingham for the England U14 training and trial on Monday. He spent three hours on on-ice and three hours on off-ice activities, and described the entire experience as “fun!”

While Thomas waits to hear if he has been selected, he will continue his intense ice hockey training schedule. At present, he plays ice hockey between five and seven times a week, fitting his homework in around time on the ice. He would love to play ice hockey professionally and he supports the Boston Bruins, who compete in the National Hockey League and are the oldest ice hockey team in the USA.

Thomas and his older brother (who plays for GB and previously for the England junior teams) were both introduced to ice hockey by their father. Last year, Thomas was in Czechia, playing for one of the top teams in the country, and he has also played in the USA, Switzerland, Czechia and the UK.

Great work Thomas!
