Silver success

A Year 11 Wetherby Senior pupil has completed his Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award, following a challenging expedition in the Lake District.

Felix undertook three sections of his DoE Award – volunteering, physical and skills – with our School. He then completed his expedition, which he described as tough, just before the start of the new academic year.

Felix explained: “I spent five days in the Lake District, undertaking my Silver expedition with a group of young people doing their Gold expedition. Everyone was really nice and friendly.

“We spent two days walking High Street, a fell named after the Roman road that ran over the summit. We also climbed Helvellyn, which is the third-highest point in England and in the Lake District, and spent time in Windermere. The Lake District is really beautiful, so it was lovely to be outside of London and take part in my expedition there.”

Felix is already planning to do his Gold DoE Award and says: “I would definitely recommend that others take part in DoE, it is a brilliant experience!”

Participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Award remains popular at Wetherby Senior. This well-respected and challenging programme can be completed at three levels – Bronze, Silver or Gold – and provides an excellent opportunity for our young people to enhance their teamwork, organisation and leadership skills.
