An intelligent debate

Wetherby Senior pupils were in the thick of it this week, witnessing a captivating discussion between a former FBI director and one of the UK’s top satirists.

Our young people attended another inspiring Intelligence Squared event, this time hearing from James Comey, who was director of the FBI until fired by Donald Trump in 2017. Mr Comey was in conversation with Armando Iannucci, the award-winning screenwriter, satirist and broadcaster.

Ms Holmes, Head of Careers, explained: “Mr Comey discussed crime, punishment and accountability within the highest echelons of politics. Drawing on his personal experiences and with reference to his new crime novel, he revealed the detective work, backdoor dealings and tradecraft involved in FBI and Department of Justice attempts to build legal cases against criminals and political figures.

“Our pupils asked Mr Comey a number of excellent questions and, as you can see from our picture, Mr Comey kindly posed for a photograph when signing copies of his book.”

Ms Holmes and pupils would like to thank Intelligence Squared for another unforgettable night of discussion and debate.
