Headmaster’s blog 05/05/2023

Our first four-day school week in May saw our GCSE English exam take place for Year 11, Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh trips for many of our boys, and a well-attended Open Evening on Wednesday.

Indeed, I’d like to thank our current boys who took part in Wednesday’s event (whether representing a department or showing visitors around our School), our staff for showcasing their respective subjects areas with enthusiasm and energy, and members of our PTA and parent body, who gave up their time to chat happily with prospective families. We have received excellent feedback from our visitors about their experience at our Open Evening, which has only served to reinforce the pride I feel about Wetherby Senior and all that we do here in Marylebone.

We have another long weekend ahead of us, and the streets around our School are already proudly marking the Coronation tomorrow with flags, banners and the like. Of course, those boys already taking part in their Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition will miss much of Saturday’s celebrations, as they return from their trip to the Chiltern Hills, which was obviously booked before the Coronation date was announced!

For our Year 8 cohort, next week also contains a link to royalty, thanks to their history trip to Hampton Court on Wednesday. This is a fantastic opportunity for boys to further their classroom studies on the Tudors and Stuarts, although I hope no one gets lost in the famous Hampton Court maze!

Finally, our Headmaster’s Gala takes place next Friday and I look forward to seeing many parents then, as we celebrate the Gold Standard Charitable Trust together. A reminder that the last few tickets are available via our PTA, who deserve much praise for their tireless hard work and organisation towards what promises to be a fabulous evening at the Landmark Hotel.
