Music to our ears

Wetherby Senior’s young musicians didn’t stop believing or performing at a thrilling musical day last term.

Before the Easter holiday, our Music Department hosted a Brass and Wind Day for the Society of Heads, with pupils joining from a number of different schools. Wetherby Senior’s music ensembles performed a range of pieces, including Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’, Michael Jackson’s Thriller and the Guns n’ Roses classic, Sweet Child O’ Mine.

Mr Martin, Director of Music at Wetherby Senior, said: “This Brass and Wind Day enabled our talented pupils to focus on, and master, some very different songs. Indeed, one of the reasons we were keen to host this wonderful event was to provide an opportunity for all involved to hear different instruments and to explore different musical genres.

“Music can bring together people of different abilities, ages, and interests. By working with a number of schools at this event, our boys were able to hear other musicians performing, which was inspiring for them, and they were also able to inspire others with their own outstanding performance skills.”

Music is a vibrant dimension of life at Wetherby Senior, with boys encouraged to develop their individual talents and interests. All in Year 7 are taught a brass or string instrument, and our Music Department also offers tuition in a wide range of instruments with around 200 boys enjoying individual music lessons each week.
