Wetherby Senior’s Year 8 have been following in the footsteps of World War Two codebreakers, on a visit to Bletchley Park.
For last Friday’s Field Day, our pupils visited the home of British codebreaking and birthplace of modern information technology near Milton Keynes. As well as touring the museum and grounds, our boys undertook a number of challenging workshops that tested own codebreaking skills.
Mr Malone, from our Maths Department, explained: “Bletchley Park is a place of exceptional historical importance and played a major role in World War Two, producing secret intelligence which had a direct and profound influence on the outcome of the conflict. Our Field Day visit explained the site’s historical, cultural and mathematical importance to our boys, while also celebrating the people who worked at Bletchley Park and helped change the course of history.
“We had a fantastic time at Bletchley Park, with our boys even getting to press the button on a real enigma machine!”
Bletchley Park, once the top-secret home of the World War Two codebreakers, is now a museum and vibrant heritage attraction open to members of the public.
