Our Year 7 star

Samar joined Year 7 at Wetherby Senior in September 2022 and, after half a term, has settled smoothly into life at our School.

“I came to Wetherby Senior from Garden Suburb Junior School in North London. Thinking back on my 11+ application process now, I really enjoyed my interview at Wetherby Senior in January! I had a lot of fun talking to the teacher. We discussed art, Wetherby Senior, and things that I like, so it was a good experience. I was delighted to then be offered a place at Wetherby Senior.

“My first day in Marylebone was an induction day for Year 7 pupils, which was also a lot of fun. We took part in an orienteering challenge that helped us learn our way around the two buildings. I made friends doing this and there were some older pupils, who came in to help with this event, who were very friendly and kind.

“My first lesson at Wetherby Senior was maths and the teacher was really welcoming, so that made everyone feel at home. I love science lessons at Wetherby Senior, as we do an experiment every two weeks, which is very exciting. I also like going to our School library. Mr Munday, our School Librarian, is so nice and I enjoy reading – my favourite author is Anthony Horowitz.

“After just a couple of weeks, we had our Year 7 residential trip in West Sussex, which was brilliant. We travelled by coach, watching a movie and playing games together, and then got to do lots of fun activities. I particularly enjoyed raft building and I even managed to stay on my raft, unlike many of my friends…

“Outside of lessons, I belong to the Lego Robotics Club, which meets at lunchtime. I have always loved Lego, so I was really pleased to hear that Wetherby Senior had such a club!

“To anyone thinking of joining Wetherby Senior in Year 7, I would say – don’t be nervous! Before starting Year 7, I was worried that I would be swamped with homework but that hasn’t been the case. In my first week at Wetherby Senior, the homework was quite straightforward, and it has gradually gotten harder as we’ve moved through this first term, so it is never overwhelming. Looking back, I would say that my first half term at Wetherby Senior has been a lot of fun!”
