Headmaster’s blog 04/02/22

With just one week until our half-term break, I’m delighted to see so many different activities and events taking place or scheduled in our calendar.

In these last weeks, we’ve had workshops on-site with external speakers, we’ve seen boys head to the theatre and to prestigious public lectures, and we’ve had our sports teams represent Wetherby Senior in numerous tournaments. This weekend, members of our Model United Nations, in their role as Nigeria, head to Manchester for an event with other UK schools. Next week, as well as publication of The Barometer, we end with a charity mufti day, with boys wearing Trib colours instead of uniform. After such a busy start to 2022, I’m sure our half-term holiday will be enjoyed by all.

As you will know, wellbeing and strong pastoral care remain at the heart of our School. This week saw several year groups take part in workshops with an external organisation, looking at topics around gender equality and healthy relationships. I look forward to sharing more about this in next week’s newsletter. We also have our Safer Internet Day next Tuesday, where pupils will engage in a range of activities, including quizzes and a film for our youngest years, to help examination of themes around friendships, relationships and respect online.

On Friday, we launched applications for our next prefect scheme, which enables Year 12 to support work across Wetherby Senior, whilst developing leadership qualities and being role models to younger members of our School community. Staying with this, our assemblies saw our current prefects talk about the role models in their lives, explaining how and why these people have inspired them. Further details about our School’s prefect scheme are in our newsletter, and I look forward to reading inspiring applications from our Year 12 applicants before the given deadline.
