At the end of my first term here at Wetherby I already feel very much a part of the school and have had a wonderful time meeting many of you as well as getting to know the boys and the staff. What has been a recurring theme over the term has been the cohesive nature of the community of which I am now a part. Relationships between boys and between boys and staff are kind and considerate and grounded in respect. What is particularly pleasing is that many of our prospective parents and visitors can also see this. When I have spoken at visitor mornings and open events, I have said very clearly to people that I am extremely proud of the school and feel it is a privilege to be trusted to lead it. This bears repeating to all of you, as it is absolutely true; this is a wonderful school to be a part of, and I am confident of our continued upward trajectory in all areas of school life.
Of course, it is not me who is really responsible for this, it is the staff and boys who need thanking. I am extremely grateful to all of the staff who work with dedication and passion in supporting your sons and allowing them to flourish here as individuals as well as preparing them for exam success and life beyond school.
At the time of writing, we have just finished an afternoon of festive fun. Boys have eaten Christmas lunch together in their Tribs, enjoyed a range of fun activities and spent time decorating a ‘Trib grotto’ as the final inter-Trib competition of the term. The highlight of the afternoon however, by some margin, has been the staff pantomime production of ‘Jack and the baked beanstalk’. I cannot believe that there is a finer half hour of theatre available anywhere else in London this festive season – well done to all involved. As you may know, ticket sales for the pantomime raise money for the school’s chosen charities and I am delighted to report that over £1000 was raised this afternoon alone.
I hope that you all get to enjoy a break in the coming weeks and are able to relax wherever you are and whatever you are doing. I look forward to our return in January refreshed and reinvigorated and ready for another exciting term.
