Nurturing Happy, Successful Learners

Our pupils benefit from a robust, holistic student support programme that is meticulously crafted to ensure their wellbeing, happiness, safety and security. When students feel happy and supported, they are more likely to excel, in class and out, and develop into confident, compassionate and well-rounded individuals. As such, we employ trained professionals and have various effective mechanisms to help students make the most of their school years.

Pastoral Care and Wellbeing

We are proud to have an excellent, much-praised pastoral care system that supports over 400 pupils, all of whom we know individually. Children deserve to be happy at school, and we aim to develop their unique characters and help them become confident, considerate, multi-skilled learners.

The success of our pastoral care system is due to a holistic, school-wide approach that combines leadership by our Deputy Head: Pastoral, management by Heads of Section and support from dedicated form tutors. Parents’ first point of contact is their son’s form tutor, with whom they enjoy a close relationship and who delivers updates regarding their son’s progress.

Wellbeing underpins everything that we do. Our experienced, highly qualified Wellbeing Team offers pupil workshops and parent talks that complement our outstanding personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) programme. We also have trained professionals who provide counselling and coaching to nurture the wellbeing and personal development of our boys.

House System

Our much-loved house system is integral to school life, providing support and community to boys from their first day.

Each student is assigned to a house, which at Wetherby Senior is called a ‘Trib’. There are five Tribs, each named for one of London’s hidden rivers, or ‘tributaries’: Effra, Fleet, Ravensbourne, Tyburn and Walbrook.

In addition to fostering a sense of belonging, our Tribs provide a fun way to make friends in other year groups and encourage our boys to take on leadership responsibilities, especially in the Sixth Form.

Our inter-Trib competitions are a source of friendly, school-wide rivalry in everything from music and drama to sport, debating and more. Students work cooperatively with their fellow Trib members as they strive to achieve our coveted Thames Trophy at the end of the year.

Form Tutors

Form Tutors

Each form at Wetherby Senior has a dedicated form tutor, who is the main point of contact for all pupils and is responsible for their guidance, care and supervision.

Form tutors meet with their form for morning registration every day and for PSHE sessions every week. This enables our form tutors to build a strong relationship with their pupils and get to know them individually, meaning they can easily deal with any issues that may arise.

Our boys remain with the same form tutor in Years 7 and 8 to ensure continuity of care during their early years at our school. Form groups are mixed in Year 9 to integrate learners joining at this entry point, and new tutors are assigned to each of these new forms.

Sixth Formers are supported by a team of specialist Sixth Form tutors who are trained to support boys during these two years. They meet daily with their tutor to establish a strong sense of community.
