Theatrical triumph

The world premiere of our Lower School drama production, written by one Wetherby Senior teacher following inspiration from another, saw fantastic performances by some of our School’s youngest actors.

Boys in Years 7 to 9 auditioned for parts in The Useless Tree last term, and have since been busy rehearsing with Mr Tibbles in the director’s chair. Mr Tibbles also wrote The Useless Tree, after being given the idea by the experience of fellow English teacher, Mr Hayes.

Mr Tibbles explained: “Last year, Mr Hayes was telling me how land at the bottom of his garden may be destroyed for property development. Afterwards, I continued to reflect on his story and found the characters of a play starting to form. I then set to work, writing and researching what would eventually become The Useless Tree, the first play that I’ve ever written.”

Making good use of School’s Drama Studio, The Useless Tree took place last week, on Wednesday and Thursday.

Mr Tibbles added: “Thank you and well done to our actors, who embraced the script and worked on this show with a conscientiousness and passion beyond anything I could have imagined. This play was for you, and I hope you will remember it fondly in years to come.”

Life in our Drama Department continues apace, with plans underway for our Upper School play at RADA on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th December. Please note these dates in your diary and keep an eye on our School website and social media channels for further updates next term!
