Headmaster’s blog 24/06/22

And so we reach the end of another busy week for Wetherby Senior which, despite the disruption of transport strikes, has included a number of fantastic events and activities for our prospective and current pupils, plus our alumni.

For future pupils, set to join Years 7 and 9 this autumn, we held two induction events with parents, where they could meet staff over a cup of tea and Wetherby Senior branded cupcake. As you will appreciate, the move from primary to secondary school can seem daunting for both pupils and parents, so I am delighted that we could welcome our new boys and their families to our School community in such a pleasant manner.

For our current pupils and parents, we have seen drama, music and more take place in Marylebone. Many of our youngest pupils have been hard at work on our Lower School play, The Useless Tree, ready for their first performance on Wednesday, with a second performance on Thursday. Indeed, such commitment and dedication will see boys at Marylebone this weekend for the final rehearsals of what promises to be an outstanding production. A reminder that tickets are on sale via ParentPay, so please book now to avoid disappointment.

On Wednesday evening, our audience of pupils, parents and staff attended a wonderful summer concert at Hinde Street. Well done to our Music Department and our young musicians for such strong performances that ranged from classical music to pop, rock and film classics.

In addition, throughout this week, our pupils have been involved in fascinating activities to mark Pride month, covering topics such as language, religion and history, and including a celebration of different food in our Hannah House Dining Room. Thank you to all pupils, staff and parents who supported our Diversity Week and ensured it was a great success.

Finally, our outgoing Year 13 and their families will enjoy our Wetherby Senior’s Leavers’ Party tonight, alongside alumni from 2021 and 2020 who missed a similar celebration due to the pandemic. Demand for our Leavers’ Party has been such that the event is now taking place at Hannah House and it is certain to be a wonderfully sociable occasion, as well as a great way to start the weekend.

You will also see that I have written to you separately about staffing for next year – we are soon to say goodbye to some staff, and also to welcome in a wonderful group of new teachers who are all very much looking forward to joining our Wetherby Senior community.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
