Talking About Pride Month

Members of Wetherby Senior’s Diversity Committee and Pride Group have been marking Pride Month by hearing more from a leading LGBT+ charity.

Volunteers from the charity, Just Like Us, visited Wetherby Senior to deliver a fascinating talk this week. Founded in 2016, Just Like Us now works with schools from across the UK to celebrate LGBT+ equality, providing talks and events, as well as educational resources.

Ms Nash, who helped coordinate the event, explained: “The volunteers from Just Like Us, Billy and Emma, spoke about their personal experiences of coming out, before leading a discussion on how we can continue to ensure our School is as inclusive and tolerant as possible.

“Our young people found the talk really inspiring and now they can’t wait to put into action the many ideas they gained from it. Luckily, next week is Wetherby Senior’s first Diversity Week, so it provides a perfect opportunity for our Committee to make strides towards their aim of celebrating difference and inclusivity.”

As outlined on our poster, below, Wetherby Senior will be hosting a range of events during lunchtimes next week, including a chance to learn a new language, a pupil-led workshop on Abrahamic religions, and as a presentation on the history of Pride Month.
