Do the maths

Pupils at Wetherby Senior have added up to get our School’s best ever result in a national maths competition.

At our last assembly before half-term, certificates were awarded to our pupils for their hard work and success in the Junior Mathematical Challenge. This UK-side competition, which has now been running for 25 years, is aimed at pupils in Years 7 and 8.

Mr Astbury-Palmer, Head of Mathematics at Wetherby Senior, said: “Well done to all our young mathematicians! We saw some outstanding results for Wetherby Senior, with 31 bronze certificates, 11 silver certificates and a School record of 8 golds, beating last year’s total of 5 golds.

“I’d like to make a special mention of Yu and Lukas (pictured with our Headmaster), who both achieved the best score in our School – an incredible feat for Year 7 boys! In addition, Leo qualified for the Intermediate Kangaroo with a merit, which puts him in the top 2% of the best mathematicians, for his age, in the UK!”

Organised by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust, the Junior Mathematical Challenge encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in a wide variety of mathematical techniques, in order to solve interesting problems under timed conditions.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
