Headmaster’s blog 20/05/22

And so another week of our Summer Term has passed, with our usual lessons and co-curricular activities, plus sports fixtures, A Level revision on-site for Year 13, and two outstanding musical concerts.

While we have a story in today’s newsletter to current parents about Monday’s Summer Solo Recital, and will feature last night’s very well-attended Live Lounge next week, I’d like to congratulate all our young musicians on their amazing performances. Particular praise must go to Li for his flawless post-Grade VII Chopin piece on Monday and to Aarav for his Rage against the Machine performance last night, with both showcasing the talent and eclectic range of our young people.

In addition, as part of our higher education support for boys and their families, we held a university application twilight this week, for parents of our current Year 12. Further events are planned for this term, including applying to Canadian universities (for Years 10 to 12 pupils and parents) next Thursday and another university application twilight for parents in June.

Staying with university ambitions, I am delighted to feature a profile on one of our current Year 13, who holds an offer for Russell Group institution, Queen Mary. I hope you enjoy reading about Ahmad and remember that previous profiles of our outgoing sixth formers, and their university plans, can be found on the news page of our School website.

Today our Year 12 geographers headed to Whitstable to undertake fieldwork as part of their A Level studies, so I hope the sun shone on them, despite the grey rain that we endured in Marylebone this morning. Next week, alongside exams, lessons and co-curricular activities (which includes, for some of our boys, finalising the latest issue of The Barometer), our Year 10 GCSE Drama class will be at the Old Vic Theatre on Wednesday, enjoying the dark comedy, The 47th. I look forward to hearing their thoughts on a play that imagines a 2024 Presidential race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

A reminder that next Friday (27th May) is our last day before the half-term break, with boys expected back in Marylebone on Monday 6th June.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
