As bold as brass

Wetherby Senior’s brass musicians are set to blow their own trumpet, and other brass instruments, in the weeks ahead.

Our School’s brass players will showcase their talent, hard work and harmony at a number of forthcoming events, starting with our Brass Bash at 6:00pm on Wednesday 30th March. Our Brass Band will then head to Jersey at the start of April, for a four-day tour which will include performances at a number of locations across the island.

For next week’s Brass Bash concert, at Hannah House, our audience will be entertained with an eclectic range of pieces, from the traditional Greek song Misirlou (which may be familiar to many from Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction) to Lin-Manuel Miranda’s family-friendly Moana, and from Henry Miller’s 1893 classic The Cat Came Back to Neil Diamond’s 1969 hit Sweet Caroline.

Mr Martin, Director of Music, explains: “At Wetherby Senior, all in Year 7 learn to play a brass instrument, with teaching aided by support from our team of professional brass players who regularly perform with Europe’s finest orchestras and bands, in London’s West End and at various international festival. Our Brass Bash concerts encourage future generations of outstanding brass players and our musicians are well versed in a range of popular and traditional styles, with a varied repertoire.”

“In addition, our Brass Band tour of Jersey will see our boys work with staff from Jersey Academy of Music, perform at venues like Jersey Zoo and Howard Davis Park, and enjoy visiting famous sites on Jersey during their downtime.”

A review of next week’s Brass Bash, plus news from our Brass Band’s Jersey tour, will feature on our School’s website and social media channels.
