Make a scene

Young actors, in Years 7 to 9, can audition next week for parts in our 2022 Lower School production.

At present, rehearsals are continuing for our Trib Drama production, which takes place at the end of March with tickets available via ParentPay. Alongside this, pupils in Years 7 to 9 are invited to audition for parts in our Lower School production, with audition slots on Wednesday 23rd March (Year 9) and Thursday 24th March (Years 7 and 8).

English and drama teacher, Mr Tibbles, explains: “Our next Lower School production is a tragicomedy, with political themes. Called The Useless Tree, it has been written especially for Wetherby Senior and explores themes like protest, climate change, grief, and storytelling.

“Rehearsals begin after Easter, so we are holding auditions next week, in our Drama Studio. Large roles and smaller non-speaking parts will be available. We’re very excited to be running a Lower School production in 2022, after previous cancellations due to the pandemic.”

To audition for The Useless Tree, boys must learn a short speech, which has been handed out by our Drama Department. For Year 9, auditions will be at 1:20 on Wednesday 23rd March. For Years 7 and 8, auditions will be at 1:20 on Thursday 24th March. Our picture, below, shows an audition in our Drama Studio for our Lower School production back in 2021.

Our Lower School production of The Useless Tree will take place on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th June, with pupils expected to attend a rehearsal on Sunday 26th June. For more information, please speak to Mr Tibbles.
