Curtain up, at last!

Opening night for Wetherby Senior’s Trib Drama is just over two weeks away, after a two-year delay caused by the pandemic.

So Long Mr Longland, a comedy murder mystery written specifically for Wetherby Senior by playwright Jacob Sheils, was due to open in spring 2020, before Covid restrictions hit. This term, our Tribs have been rehearsing hard and will now perform on a set that has been waiting patiently for the last two years.

Using our School’s Drama Studio on Marylebone Lane, opening night is at 7:00pm on Monday 28th March, followed by a second performance at 7:00pm on Thursday 31st March. As an inter-Trib competition, Thursday’s performance will be judged by Paul Giles, familiar to many thanks to his LAMDA coaching at our School.

Miss Twomey, Head of Drama at Wetherby Senior, explains: “After their first performance on Monday, our boys have a 48-hour window to make changes and improve their work further before Thursday. We’re very grateful to Jacob, for writing a play that enables each Trib to perform a different scene, and to Paul, for giving up his time to provide valuable feedback and advice to our young people.

“Our production is entirely pupil-led, with each Trib having selected their own director, assistant director and five actors from within their Trib. This enables our boys to develop their dramatic skills, both on- and off-stage.”

Tickets for So Long Mr Longland can be purchased on ParentPay, on a first come, first served basis. Parents are reminded that performances in our School’s Drama Studio always sell out, so early booking is advised.
