On your bike

Young people at Wetherby Senior are set to race the length of the River Thames, in 12 hours, all from the comfort of our School’s spin studio.

On Wednesday 2nd March, members from all year groups will take part in our first Wetherby Senior School Sponsored Spin. As well as raising funds for some deserving causes, this event will see our Trib teams compete to be first to cycle 346 km, otherwise known as the length of the River Thames.

Of course, our young cyclists will have no complaints about the weather or fear of knocking over a passing pedestrian as this inter-house competition will take place inside, making use of our Marylebone Lane spin studio. Five spin bikes – one for each Trib – have been put aside, meaning each boy will cycle a half hour slot, from 7:00am to 7:00pm, as they represent their Trib.

Mr Thornton, who has been co-ordinating our charitable cycling challenge, explains: “We’re delighted to be making good use of our School’s state-of-the-art spin studio for what promises to be a fun and rewarding event. We have already seen over 75% of our half hour slots fill, so any boys still wishing to take part should sign up now with their Head of Trib.

“Our Wetherby Senior School Sponsored Spin will raise funds for our chosen charities of Save the Children, Crisis and West London Mission. In addition, our winning Trib will edge closer to winning our Thames Trophy this year.”

All participating cyclists have been given sponsor forms and can be sponsored directly in that way. In addition, donations can be made via the JustGiving page found here.

Mr Thornton added: “On our JustGiving page, sponsors can choose one (or more) of our charities to support, as well as add encouraging comments to inspire our young people before the event.”

Best of luck to all our cyclists next week!
