Headmaster’s blog 25/02/22

I trust all enjoyed a relaxing half-term holiday, spending time with family and friends, and reading the latest edition of The Barometer (available online here).

Our first week back has seen several events regarding new admissions to Wetherby Senior. We have received a record number of very strong applications for Year 7 entry (for September 2022) and Year 9 entry (for September 2024) so, earlier this week, held a successful Q&A session for boys, and their parents, holding Year 7 offers. In addition, yesterday saw another well attended Visitor Morning for families looking to apply in the future, and we have more events planned for this term and next. The continued popularity of Wetherby Senior reflects the hard work and success of all within our community, and I feel very proud to see our School continuing to grow in this way.

Our Deputy Head, Mr Lawrence, wrote to all current parents this week with an update on our arrangements following implementation of the government’s Living with Covid plan. Please note that masks are no longer required and the Department for Education has now removed its guidance for those in most education settings to undertake twice-weekly asymptomatic testing. However, at Wetherby Senior, we propose to distribute further test kits to our boys, so families have a stock in the event of possible symptoms presenting. If a pupil tests positive, we do request that he isolate and study online via Microsoft Teams for five days in order to safeguard the health of all within our School community. We will, of course, keep these arrangements under review and will continue to keep everyone informed of any further updates or changes.

As you will see in this week’s newsletter, our boys have a busy six weeks ahead of them. Alongside their academic studies, we have a challenging fundraising event next week, a careers evening at Queen’s College, and numerous higher education activities taking before Easter to inspire our sixth formers. I hope you enjoy reading about all of this.

Wetherby Senior sixth formers have been snapping around London, taking photos of what our capital city means to them.
