Mr Bolderow’s Blog

I hope that this newsletter finds you and your loved ones well at this time and that the pressures of working from home whilst your children are studying are not proving too great.  I have been very impressed this week with the independence and resilience of the boys who, by all reports, are getting on with the work cheerfully and purposefully.

It has been good to talk to the boys I teach on Teams and get their thoughts on how it is going.  At the moment they all seem to like it and are making the most of the time at home to study; one or two prefer it (although I think that is to do with the lie in!).  Naturally, the way we are teaching online is different to the classroom.  Not all lessons will work in exactly the same way but we are adapting and developing to our new environment and I think that is to be welcomed.

We have been accessing a lot of online content at home to keep my two little ones busy, from PE lessons and yoga, to art competitions, to singing and ballet.  There are so many positive activities for them to access, but it is also natural to be concerned about this increased amount of screen time.  The boys were reminded about e-safety before the school closed last week, however, it remains an area where we need to be especially vigilant at this time. The video chat app Houseparty has become particularly popular and I attach a useful link for information:

Of course, there has been a great deal to celebrate this week.  I have had some fantastic feedback from the staff about what has been going on and a very small selection is below:

A Year 12 art student has taught himself how to 3D model so that he can turn the dystopian landscapes he is creating for his current project into virtual environments.

The French department has looked into the measures being taken by the French government to manage the spread of the coronavirus using some of the official paperwork.

Virtual wind ensemble took place on Wednesday with the boys listening to beatboxing flute, jazz flute and taking part in a quiz.  Mr Lewis, who teaches trumpet, did a Desert Island Discs explaining his inspiration to the Year 7 boys.

I plan to bring term to a close next week with a virtual assembly – watch this space! I hope you and your families continue to be safe and well and that you all enjoy some time away from your work stations this weekend.

Best wishes,
Seth
